In the case of halitosis (bad breath), a differentiation must be made between a temporary effect (e.g. after consuming certain foods and beverages) and a permanent condition. Permanent halitosis is caused by chemical degradation processes in the mouth arising from bacteria. Intensifying oral hygiene, measures for reducing the bacterial count in the oral cavity and professional dental cleaning in the surgery can effectively combat halitosis in the majority of cases. The use of special mouth rinse and mouthwash solutions as well as a tongue scraper support the therapy against halitosis.
